- It took about 2 years 11 months and 18 days to prepare the Constitution of India. The task of writingthe Indian Constitution was given to a draft committee headed by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
Constitution of India - 2. There are two copies of the Indian Constitution, one in English and one in Hindi. Both copies of the Constitution of India are handwritten.
- The Indian Constitution is the longest written in the world. It has 444 articles divided into 22 articles and 12 schedules. Recently, 118 amendments were added to the constitution.
- On 24 January 1950, copies of the Indian handwritten constitution were signed by 308 assembly members.
- The original copies of the Constitution of India are preserved in a helium-filled coffin in the Library of Parliament House.
- Republic Day is a three-day event that ends with the Beating Retreat ceremony on 29 January.
- During the Republic Day parade, a Christian hymn, 'Abide with Me', is played which was a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi.
- President Sukarno, the first head of Indonesia, was the chief guest of India's first Republic Day.
- Republic Day was first celebrated in 1955 at Rajpath. "Jan Gana Mana", the national anthem of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 24 January 1950.
- India's national anthem was written in Bengali by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. It was later translated into Hindi.
- Dr Rajendra Prasad was sworn in as the first President of India on 26 January 1950 at 10:24 am.

- January 26 is India's Republic Day, as well as Australia's official national day.
